ACL Surgery

As a fellowship trained sports medicine surgeon, Dr. Pearle has a special interest in advancing the care of athletic knee injuries. Dr. Pearle is the former Editor-in-Chief of the journal Techniques in Knee Surgery and a member of the international ACL Study group. Dr. Pearle is internationally known for his ACL research. He has developed novel ACL techniques, implants and the routine activities on ACLR, and helps direct ACLR research at HSS.

Because of his expertise, Dr. Pearle is often invited to discuss ACL injuries for the news media. Dr. Pearle feels strongly that patient education is essential for optimal outcome. Dr. Pearle has been working with his colleagues at HSS and at the ACL Study group to develop programs to help prevent ACL injuries. He has developed the Knee Guardian app to 

guide athletes through exercises that have been shown to reduce the risk of ACL injury. Dr. Pearle invites you to help "pay it forward" and encourage teammates and friends to use the app or other prevention programs to help reduce the risk of ACL injury in the community.

The videos below demonstrate surgical techniques for different graft types (hamstring, bone patellar tendon bone, and allograft or cadaver grafts). Dr. Pearle performs all of these techniques and individualizes his recommendation to match the appropriate technique to the patient.
